Friends Since Birth
It started informally enough with these shockingly beautiful and amazingly humble cousins-for-all-intents-and-purposes (Ash O’Rourke and Kendall Shaw) coming together to share their sparkling wit via hilariously passionate and often outrageous discussions about books old and new, beloved and hated.
(Phew! Can Ash write a run-on sentence or what?)
When it became clear that friends and family found their discussions equally entertaining, they both thought to themselves at the exact same moment and not at all because Ash is editorializing for the sake of a good origin story, “We should do the most pretentious thing possible and create a podcast for fellow book lovers who want to listen and be amused by marvelous, earth-shattering insight into our favorite books while we drink whiskey out of teacups.”
Well, maybe it was Ash’s idea, but she could tell that Kendall was intrigued by the whiskey/teacup proposal.
With dizzying amounts of wit and sarcasm at their disposal, and a cupboard full of tea (and other beverages), all they needed was a microphone.
Well, two microphones. Actually, two microphones, an audio interface, headphones, and a few more things. After months of brainstorming and saving up, the equipment was purchased and in 2019 the adventure began.
The story siren pod grows.
Five years, several seasons, and many books later, the pod added another host to the mix—Myrissa Yokie—AKA Gino! Ash and Myrissa met on a mermaid/freediving retreat, and the rest was history. Not only is Myrissa a performing mermaid and chicken enthusiast, but she’s also an avid reader with a delightful sense of humor and a wicked sharp wit.
From classics like Pride and Prejudice and the Great Gatsby to modern day should-be-classics like Percy Jackson and the Infernal Devices, this podcast has everything a book nerd could want.
